Rocky Heart
as the tear duct drills
through the crust of the heart
the water wells
and fills the eyes in part
in part we see
in part we know
as drought of heart
is sure to show
as the rocky cracks part
the eyes will flow
water pure
from melted snow
an icy heart
will melt and thaw
as fire burns
with stubble and straw
in warmth of hearth
the ashes glow
of papers old
a hand did throw
our past is past
yet we still last
in drought and snow
our love can grow
our love will grow
as eyes will show
its gutter filled
with love that’s spilled
