Road To Nowhere

Looking around at faces unfriendly to me Nobody to love, nothing good or kind to see I see the paved road fraught with pain and grief Knowing this trip will be ugly, tiresome, and brief I see a man standing by the side of this long road He appears to be weary from his own heavy load Yet he just smiles kindly and tips his hat to me I keep on walking and come across a gold key It says "key to somewhere, find me please." I walk for miles till I even hurt in my knees And I cry out to nobody, "where am I? help me" Then I see the old man smiling and so full of glee He asks me my troubles and I show him the key "You’re on the road to nowhere,” he says to me I look at this man, worn skin from the hot sun And I realize that now my journey has begun
