Notes About The Poem
No words are needed for those who identify with it.
Rls
It sneaks in at night when sleep is most wanted yet so elusive
I stretch the pinnacle of my knees drawn up under me until I feel they will break
Yet sleep recesses again to deny me the rest I crave
Walking and talking to my body, trying to coax it to give in and lie down again.
Oh, how I wish for even a nightmare, for the mind is at least asleep, free from pain
The robber of rest betrays me, and the worms crawl across the knees, causing a jerking reaction.
Dreams evade me; the clock moves ever slowly forward, yet no sleep satisfaction.
How many days has the precious rest slithered away into the coming dawn?
Robbing the mind of clarity even when the body presses on
Dreading the hours until darkness overtakes the peacefulness of light
Knowing the sleep demons wait patiently for the body to rest in the coming night
Until no more, the mind can resist and finally sinks into the depths of a dreamless abyss
Peaceful at last until the stealer of rest betrays the body with a cruel and restless kiss.
