Riddle
How do men choose their course on earth?
Some live for power, riches, fame,
Others disdain both death and birth,
Our human fate alone to blame.
In many hearts there’s but the thirst
For pleasure, wine, a rowdy night,
While others put their duty first,
For honor is their guiding light.
There are so many who have delved
Into man’s fickle soul to find
The answer to this riddle, shelved
In dark recesses of the mind.
Despite their science, skill and sight,
This mystery of greatest worth
Evades so many in their plight:
How do men choose their course on earth?
