Rick For Short

Rick For Short By Rick Rucker There were two Richards in my class, One of us had to change his name, As Rick Nelson had risen to fame, I changed mine to Rick, it might win me a lass! I didn’t know what Richard meant Or I might not have so quickly let my name depart, For it means “The Lion Heart,” When I was young, Courage would have been Heaven sent! When very young, I was ultra short, The saving grace was that I ran fast, So, for running games, I wasn’t chosen last, But for basketball, I was made fun of, just for sport, Nature intervened late in life, A sudden growth spurt let me get to nearer normal height, Now I was too big to fight, Others didn’t want to engage me in strife, Suddenly, I wasn’t “Rick for short,” Since I wasn’t focused on what I no longer lacked, I used my brain, my nerves were no longer racked, I became THE student to help you with a report, So, in an odd way, you could say, That most of my goals I have met, To being a poet, author, and artist, on the internet, That I likely owe my name for what I have done, up to this day! Sometimes we arrive at a decision quick, That may change our life forever, Us, from our old life it can sever, I’m so glad I changed my name to Rick!

Very cool to read about this, RIck. I used to have a crush on a boy named Ricky and so Ricky was a FAVE name of mine for a long time!! I babysat a boy named Ricky and the kid loved his stepdad so much that he changed not only his last name to the new dad's but also his name Ricky to Eric!! That made me so disappointed , but in your case , changing richard to Rick I think was a great move. RIck is just a cuter name! (congrats!)

A well written example of an enclosed rhyme poem. This looks like a good entry for the contest "What's in a Name?"
