Notes About The Poem

Richard the Third 2 Premier
Nature holds me to ransom with its cruelty,
look at me, if thou would dare,
a grotesque specimen unlike any human
thou has ever cast thine eyes!
what reason do you have to punish me thus?
I am born of the same womb as Clarence,
and my brother, the King!
Not loved, not respected, and ever an object
of ridicule, denied every courtesy that is
afforded to others in my house.
I am despised, not trusted,
a copper trinklet of dubious distinction!
But I shall not suffer the ravages of destiny!
I shall fashion my way, my own nefarious way,
and get even on life that has cast me into
this dungeon of existence!
I shall spare no one any mercy!
Why should I when I have been shown none!
Deceitful, cunning, sly I can be,
Shall cover my cabal mind behind
a facade of innocence, using the very tools
that justice provides the noble,
I shall get my brothers executed,
and marry for fortune.
I shall be king of the very kingdom
that has given me so much grief!
The stone walls of the towers will
one day tell my tale, and also hide my
vicious deeds!
Show me no love! I deserve none!
I ask you for nothing! Let me be!
History will write my chapter,
if truth be ever known!
But all that, after I have been king,
and long after I am done!
