Written 4 August 2025 for Rolling With The Rs Poetry Contest of Nette Onclaod

Rhythm of a River Soothing whispers in spring; with rolling summer rains revolves to robust roaring rush, riding on crest of rough rocks on its bed, chills down to soft rippling rhythm with arrival of fall, then silent and soothing.

2 4 6 8 10 10 6 4 2 Krishnanand, I was rooting for you and your poem. I picked it as the top one. I was surprised it wasn't. But when I checked line#6, it should have 8 syllables. I hope this helps.

On another aspect, rhythm of a river, as you are aware, refers more appropriately to "rhythmic changes; they flow with the seasons and respond to longer climatic shifts and often to the actions of people." https://news.griffith.edu.au/2022/07/11/uncovering-the-changing-rhythms-of-rivers-and-people/

Thank you dear poet for trying to explain the non placement of the above poem. For me this issue remains unresolved. In fact, prior to submission of the poem, I had checked on www.howmanysyllables.com>syllable_counter which gave 8 syllables for verse 6. I have checked again after reading your comments. It still TURNS OUT 8 SYLLABLES. On the other hand the syllable counter of Poetry Soup gives 10 syllables for line 6. In fact, www.howmanysyllables.com is internationally used and many sponsors of Poetry Soup contest request checking via this tool. So which is which? How can I look forward for rectification of the situation? An early response would be appreciated.

With the change of seasons, the river puts on different countenances. Sometimes it is a soft whisper, at other times, it is a thunderous roar. Again it becomes a soft rippling rhythm and in winter falls silent. Beautiful, dear friend.
