Rhyme Time Iii-Death
In tears, my mommy came to say
That life left Papa on this day—
I squeezed eyes shut to fade away,
To flee this world of life so brief
Where boys this small must suffer grief
And cope with tragic disbelief—
Oh, Papa! Victim of life’s thief,
And Mama crying on their bed:
She wailed and wished he not be dead
While neighbors gathered, full of dread,
They milled about with solemn tread,
All faces gray and clothing black,
Their pity deep, for I did lack
My Papa—oh! he’d not be back.
How sobs and whimpers did me rack
For earth, my life, had turned so wrong,
All music stopped, I felt no song
Until these words did lilt along:
“Now, son, my dear, we must be strong,”
In tears, my mommy came to say.
