Return of Grace and Elegance

year after year
of stress
of violence
  what a mess

folks yearn for a time gone by
of elegance and grace
of courtesy and gallantry
when manners had their place

it may be hard to tell
just what is going on
but things do seem the darkest
  before the rosy dawn

Manners and grace seem to have vanished in the mist. Warrior mentality is rampant on the streets. Hope is still the weapon of choice for peace loving souls. Excellent write Gershon!...ab

Yes, a rosy dawn and a piercing-blue sunset, framed by flames of orange. Paradise awaits. Thanks, Heidi.

We all look back to the good old days, back then folks had more respect for each other, and people actually talked to each other. Tom

I certainly hope your last two lines are an accurate prophecy. It seems that too much of lately has been the first stanza! So well-written.

I hope so too, Milt. Let's do our part, and eventually people will tire of the tirades and seek a life of elegance and grace. Hope springs eternal, gw

I believe that the pendulum swings in manners and lifestyle, just as in fashion. There's only so much vile behavior people can take. A for instance: My generation was MUCH more promiscuous than the current teenage generation in America. Not even close. In my high school of 541 seniors, there were 2 known virgins. (I was one of them). Today, premarital sex is way, way down among teens at that school. So, yes, there is hope! :) gw

Thank you so much. I'm so happy you read this. To my mind, you are the epitome of the poem's title. Here's to you, one classy lady! ~ Old Gersh
