Reminiscing

They sat and looked at the horizon
Hand in hand, side by side
The aged lovers watched
As the young lovers danced
Laughed, patted their backs,
Nibbled on the snacks together
Their laughters filling the evening air…

They reminisced and remembered
Nostalgia greeting their laboured smiles
They never regretted falling in love
Year after year, they sit on the beach
Recalling how they met
Single and burnt in heart they came
United and healed they went home
And it has remained so decades after…

They looked and watched
As the tide kissed the sandy banks
Peace and joy it brings to them
With memories of years so fruitful
Blossoming and growing their love
Making their hearts united and one
Turning them to models for many-a-young-ones…

Hand in hand they walked
Away from the crowd
Into the fading twilight
As they had done for years
Their wilted hands holding their third leg
Stealing stolen glances at each other
Smiling like new found lovers
Hand in hand they walked home
To a beautiful sleep
From which they both never wake…
