Remembering Today

As dementia settles into my aged mind
I am yet able to remember those days
Those memories of yesterday stay clear
But recent thoughts are disappearing
I can no longer drive my old car
Nor can I walk to the store myself
I am but a victim to the here and now
But yet, I still remember the yesterdays
It is the today that gives me problems

Michael this is amazing write. I am there looking at this soul, angry with not being able to remember the simplest thing. I am moved because the moment I started reading the piece I was taken back to one of my favorite movie the notebook and how it affected the characters. I truly loved this piece. great job. Thank you for all your wonderful comments on my work. Chris.

I like the first person point of view in this poem. It gives a personal feel to this devastating disease. This is a heartfelt piece. Thank you for sharing it. Karen

Well written Michael, and so accurately described. You could have been writing about my father in the years before he passed. Thank your for your helpful comments. I have been thick with sore-throat and headache these last couple of days and clicked on Lanterne when I really meant Crystalline. Maybe you were writing about me and not my father after all! Nigel

. This is a picture of aging that tears your heart. I'm getting close enough that it scares the hell( excuse please).. out of me. Great writing. BG
