Notes About The Poem

Released Through Pen and Ink

Sheets of blank paper had yellowed with age
I wielded a pen, but no ink was spilled by my hand,
Memories were left unwritten on every page,
though as many as a beach holds grains of sand

I gave in to my Muse and scrawled line after line
thoughts drawn from my soul, buried fathoms deep
Were all of those sad recollections really mine?
They were flowing as freely as the tears I weep

Reflections of my past in sunlight and ebony night,
refusing to remain entombed, fled from their prison
Strokes from darkness were escaping their plight
Released by my pen, from their sepulcher had risen

There is battle brandishing power in the pen I wield
A weapon I've found useful in place of a silent tongue
It cannot protect me as though suit of armor or shield,
Emotions shouldn't be confined; they should be sung

"Emotions shouldn't be confined; they should be sung" -- Lovely, brave write. We all have regrets -- to err is human. Enjoyed your poem very much. Blessings.

"Emotions shouldn't be confined; they should be sung" how true and catchy! Its like I didnt want this to end! This is beautiful! I love the rhymes and what youv expressed here as well as your diction and the profound nature of your word weaving! So many lines hit deep! "refusing to remain entombed, fled from their prison" i love the rhythm of resilience there! "A weapon I've found useful in place of a silent tongue" exactly why we write! It definitely us therapeutic ! Pleasure reading this gem! Sending you light 💋

Unless it's "Song Sung Blue." Thanks for enjoying my word weaving. We should hold a tapestry day, kind of like a quilting bee, and weave part of our souls into poetry with those silver and gold threads I sometimes use. I don't like bottling up my feelings... it makes for the congestion of stress.

Dear Lin, what a nice read this morning, with a powerful, cathartic momentum that captures the precise moment endurance transforms into active self-liberation. Keeping painful memories "entombed" requires immense, constant emotional energy. We poets know writing acts as a somatic release valve, letting long-buried feelings move out of the body and onto the page, where they can finally be integrated. Triumphant and beautifully moving work, Lin. Blessings, Daniel

Thank you very much for your review, Daniel. I could never keep my emotions under wraps... much to my annoyance, but I've learned not to reveal my heart upon my sleeve now. Some things, a woman should keep to herself until her pen dips its nib inside her heart. I am grateful for your reads and welcomed comments.
