Reflections

Just recently, upon a winter, so long, so cold, so mean
I stopped to reflect upon summers past; so warm, so bright, so green

I stumbled about a darkened house; made dim by a raging storm outside.
I thought about the warmth of spring; the joy and comfort of my bride.

I paused before a mirror; gaze upon the reflection of my aging face.
I think of times now long gone by; ponder why time does so quickly race.

I wondered at the twists of fate; the path that brought me here.
I remember my many friends and family; folks I continue to hold so very dear.

I think about the distant past; the generations that have gone before
I realize that the likes of me and mine; are what they were living for.

I ponder on one question; the real meaning of my life
I give thanks for all the good things; especially for my loving wife.

I am thankful for my children; now with children of their own.
As we grow older, to face the future; but hopefully not alone
Oh so hopefully not alone.

It is indeed gratifying to see how each other's words can apply to common recollection. You struck the right chords in creating a symphony of words..... well done.... Jake

You are welcome. I wrote this piece several years ago and was one of the fist poems I ever wrote down.

one glance in the mirror can bring back so many thoughts...time surely has a way of speeding along...like the way you analyze the house and storm and bring it all together so nicely...nice write... thanks for pointing me to it :)

To think of time gone by, and ponder why time does so race.. We have definitly lived two entirely different existances. not a bad thing, I have about 60 completed writes; however I'm afraid people will be either scared for me, of me or just not understand.. I did love this piece by you, though.. Thanks TC
