Redemption

I thought redemption had finally come
From prior sins and bad acts
But now I know I have not paid enough
To get out of this devil’s pact

No forgiveness, no act of contrition
No answer to my pleas
Not even begging for mercy
Contrite, on bended knees

The wounds that I have inflicted
Will keep me in this hell
And darkness will surround me
For as long as I can tell

Congratulations on your poem being featured this week, JB. We know as long as we ask God for forgiveness, He gives it. That doesn't mean that we don't suffer for our actions. Just the knowledge that we're forgiven should give us hope. The real tough part is forgiving ourselves. Great write! Goes to my favs. Peace, Audrey

So dark. I love it. Redemption is earned eventually by those eager to redeem. Regards. Matt.

I believe any good soul does not allow himself to be redemed until he has righted the wrongs he has done. Powerful writing, J.B. Lainie

I think it is probably more difficult to forgive oneself than being forgiven. Great poem! Congrats on your poem being featurd this week. Caroline.
