Red Roses

Red roses today are on sale;
For Valentine’s Day they won’t fail
To impress all the gals
Who are more than just pals
And a hint of romance will prevail.

But the sign announced 55 bucks
For these flowers considered deluxe.
Maybe buyers don’t care
But to many folks, they’re
Just a rip-off for V-Day, which sucks.

I always bought a bush for my late wife as she - and her mother - loved growing roses. Why? I don't know, as I much prefer a cactus flower to a thorny rose! But again, well caught and rhymed! Aloha! Rico

Haha! Right on, Ilene! Roses aren't a favorite flower, though I love the scent. A single thornless long-stem rose here costs $12 bucks! And a pot of growing tulips is not far behind. With Easter not far off, white lilies, always big sellers here, will join the ever rising costs of holiday flowers. When I had a garden years ago I had Asiastic lilies at least 5 feet tall – until shunks ate the bulbs and left an odor in the area no lily has. / M

I couldn't agree more Ilene. I bought my husband a lovely orchard earlier in the week and when he was going to buy me flowers for V. day, I told him not to. He buys me flowers, usually roses every week. They hike up the price unashamedly during V. Day. This is a fave for me Ilene. He gave me jewelry instead! Happy Valentine's Day! xxoo

The best Valentine messages are given on the other 364 days of the year. Enjoyed your poem, Ilene.

This was fun Ilene and true. I don't normally buy flowers because all they do is die but I do love planting them.

We should all have a luscious garden to pick from. Just like water, should be free.
