Rebirth - My Backwards Beginning
I lie here eavesdropping on the world I'll be in,
Doubting the stars in the sky.
The walls creak as the house whimpers,
Almost as if in reply.
I listen to the gust of wind raging,
Through shivering trees shaking away the frost
Reluctantly releasing their last quivering leaves
Which by winter's arrival are lost.
The sun hides beneath the horizon.
Things must be backwards - didn't spring just begin?
Was it not last week that these same trees danced
In the warm whispers of summer's kin?
The breath of autumn now arrives,
Though its branches of gold have browned,
In one sweep the sunrise lifts the sky
To awaken the world with an orchestra never found.
Light reflects off dewdrops on the petal of a rose,
I'm lying still amidst the world's transforming,
The eagles race, the shooting stars, on gallant wings they soar,
Like trickling water joins a stream, my life is just beginning.
