Rear-Views of Past

i don't cower to death, he had me in his grasp
faltering through the sudor of illness
my heart beating slower than time's hands
like a worthless clock on the wall needing replaced
ashen flesh bore his mark, a kiss against my blueish lips
somehow missing his quarry, while i awaited my wings

he still abides in the dumping ground of memories
with promises broken, love unspoken, and heartless liars
in a dashboard of broken dreams long abandoned
that stalk my existence, awaiting to be restored
to recommence through the pathways of my mind
as more than just unused rusted out frames of thoughts
that only resurface in the outburst of downcast eyes
when the shadows of sorrow grapple my emotions
as he purloins another from existence before me

I don't cower to death, he had me in his grasp
the attrition of time has left me emotionless
unscathed by his touch yet numb beneath his kiss
through past's rear-views as i unwillingly await my wings

An always perceptive view of life and death from your beautiful mind Sandy. I pray you won't get your wings for a very long time.

This is quite beautiful and sad, too. I hate being sick and know you must have had a bad illness to have written this. God bless you with many wonderful days - with love and prayers, Gina

This is masterfully executed poetry, the likes of which are, quite beyond my ability to fathom. How artfully you have chosen your words and arranged them as a master chef would combine the ingredients of a prize winning recipe. I’m a bit in awe.

Thank you Mark ... my muse sometimes pulls from the deepest deaths just the deepest depth and give me just the right ingredients. Other times she pens simple thoughts :) hugs

A rough ride my friend through dumping ground of memories..promises broken..heartless lies..you know how to give voice to sorrow and empower words to deliver a blow--so well written, as always, Sandy.

Thank you so much my friend ... I was trying to think of something for the junkyard contest but my mind went deep instead of favorite nicer memories. Oh well. I will have to try again later :) hugs

Thanks John. Glad he left go of you too. I do enjoy every minute because I know how precious life is. Mine was a blood clot to the heart only it took them 8 months to figure it out I was on heavy duty meds that saved my life. I was in my early 40’s at the time, and count my blessings daily ) hugs

Many fear this arrival, hiding from life, shivering in a corner behind locked doors, the outside a worried world away. I love the strength and the creativity in this piece Sandy. Death is not to fear because it will arrive eventually regardless. Enjoy each day as if it were your last, live life to the fullest and tell death...sorry, wrong number.

Thanks Chris I was on his doorstep... yet spared. I know It’s all part of life and live as if each day is my last. I don’t fear it :) hugs
