Reared in Ignorance
The chickens we rear -
no dearth of them here,
sustained by our hands.
Without us, they perish
in the wild :
starved, predated, diseased.
We crave their meat,
their eggs,
the money they bring.
A thought arises :
Are we also reared,
unknown to us.
