Reality's Rules
Silently mumbling under your breath,
you toss and turn, unable to sleep.
For self-doubt sentences love to death;
as feelings flow from shallow to deep.
Secreted within your heart and soul;
fragmented dreams morph into despair.
And those that still leave you feeling whole
are fragile; so handle them with care.
Truth frightens hearts wounded by its sting;
for once trust falters, nothing is clear.
And your heart knows the pain lies can bring;
thus, love comes with a smidgen of fear.
Ignoring imposed logic or norms;
love's known to turn dreamers into fools.
And instigate emotional storms;
not subject to reality's rules.
And yet, a growing upsurge of hope,
got you to believe souls can combine.
And spinning strands of trust into rope,
two souls conjoin: as lovers entwine.
