Reach Beyond Where I Have Reached

Do not dismiss me without a thought
If you listen carefully I'll share a lot
Although you may witness
a body that's weak
Within this mind
May be the answers you seek
I can still see clearly
although my eyes begin to fade
One day soon
Into the ground I'll be laid

Not very long ago
I was young and strong
Our youth is fleeting
It doesn't last very long
I never expected to live so many years
I have known my happy
I have shed my share of tears
Wisdom chose to come
unfortunately late
Those things I thought important
In the end we're not great

I've wasted much of my time
on the trivial things
Sought out pleasure
instead of spreading my wings
There were a few hearts
I broke along the way
That is my saddest regret of yesterday
Most importantly
this heart has known love
It's the one true gift
from up above
For Love set my feet firmly on a narrow path
Me who is flawed
Has escaped God's wrath

For in the end
I'm gifted eternity
Life is much bigger then I imagined it could be
Thankfully my journey has brought me here
I am a reflective surface
I can be your mirror
For your life is just starting
Don't waste a single day
True answers are revealed
when you learn to pray
Love others completely
Forget "Number One"
Seek out your purpose
it will lead you to be the Son
Too many are living
with the goal of self to please
The world is plagued by this horrible disease
Choose a purposed life
not the one of ease
Reach towards heaven
before life vanishes like a breeze!

Richard, this is true............... When I've not renewed yet my relationship with God... The same picture of me I see in your poem but thank God that He placed me to unexpected place where I've known how He is loving me so much all this time.... Hence, after such I made a vow to always find ways to please Him more than anyone else!!! heartfelt.. what I like when with your writes Richard your words and lines are easily understandable but the way you formed them they are striking~Olive Eloisa

Loved this poem, ironically, the pleasures and happiness we seek, in youth, well nothing wrong with that, is how we go about it, add some wisdom to the mix, and we see just how easy it can be, sadly we seem to have get older to learn it!

We live in such a self obsessed world Rick. We probably don't realise the value of your words here till we get older and wiser. Great final poem, though I hpe it isn't lol. Take care, Richard

You chose to go out with a poem of wisdom. I do not have a clue how to do a poem for this contest. I wonder if I will even have time to think up something. This one seems very popular with people! You did a great job, Richard. I sure hope none of us will have to write our last poem very soon!

Good Morning Richard, I like this. To pray and seek love first. Is what I teach my children. Eternity, waiting is worth the reach.... A wonderful poem, kind of what I'm working on with KIM... what's beyond... By the way, thank you so much for giving my new poem a read... Always ~LINDA~
