Ralph Escapes the Big House

Ralph Escapes the Big House By Elton Camp It’s a life sentence with no parole allowed “No prison can hold me,” Ralph vowed Ralph found a loose stone in his cell It helped to bribe the guard as well An escape tunnel he then began to bore Every night, he worked on it some more “When I get out, I’ll sure kill that D.A. And the jury & witness are gonna pay.” “They put me into this huge cracker box But nothing can hold this sly old fox.” After ten years of labor almost every night Ralph broke through to his great delight But a key element his escape plan did lack He was in the middle of the railroad track “Free at last!” is what he proceeded to yell But a rushing train, his dream did dispel His plans for revenge vanished just like that As the freight train then mashed him flat

Poor Ralph. I was hoping he would make it.

I sort of felt myself feeling sorry for him as the poem developed so that's why I added the part about his intention to murder the DA, witnesses, and jury members. It created a strange combination of humor and seeing a scoundrel get what he deserved. Of course, I'd never really feel joy at anyone's death. Thanks for reading. Elton
