Rainbows and Shadows
.for public domain
I could see the distant dim light of dawn,
but for the mountain peaks, no horizon,
yet I knew the day would come,
shining bright on everyone.
I smiled and took my sleep in the shadows.
Pots of gold at the end of our rainbows
will always be just a lie so supreme
we dream with eyes wide open;
its truth is but a token
we all pay to make it through life's shadows.
When that last night shall come I'll turn away.
I won't believe a word of truth they say.
I'll know the end is nearing,
no eye of mine is tearing,
as I take my own rest in the shadows.
