Notes About The Poem

Rainbows and Gold

I always followed the rainbow,
and its graceful arc across the sky.
The colors of the spectrum
are beautiful to the eye.

Yet, I was also focused, and resolved
to find that pot of gold -
more than mere colored light,
something solid to have and hold.

You may be a step ahead of me,
and already know the story.
I never found that pot of gold
in this allegory.

Leprechauns are known to mislead,
and now that I am old,
many years of experience say,
rainbows don't go with gold.

It's gold that is intangible,
never to be shown,
and the rainbow you can have and hold.
I guess this, you've always known.

It sounds like the rainbow is the gold. I like the story.

Yes, well said, and concise - why didn't I think of putting it that way! Glad you liked it.
