Notes About The Poem

For Nette Onclaud's Let It Rain Poetry Contest/ Submitted 1/19/26

Rain of Pain

Packing up clothes for Goodwill,
I hear the patter of a beginning rainfall.
Tears start forming in my eyes
as the rain now pelts my window pane.
The downpour is relentless,
and I sob as I bury my face in a sweater,
breathing in the scent of the one
for whom my tears are falling.

Congratulations, dear poetess, on sharing the top win in this contest with an emotional poem depicting the fellings you experience for someone in need whom your gifted clothing may halp. This is brought in focus with the rain on your window panes. An intelligent take on the prompt. Wish you a pleasant day.

A very potent write. It is difficult to do what you were doing and not feel as you did, and the relentless rain pouring outside and against the window pane added to the moment. A poem full of emotion. HUGS AND LOVE, Jennifer

Dear Andrea, I like how your poem doesn’t try to soften the grief, it just sits in it, which makes it real. That image of burying your face in the sweater is the line that stays with me, it says everything without needing more. Winter Blessings, Andrea, Daniel

Nice memories. We don't have goodwill stores around, they all closed.

What a story/write you have here. I enjoyed reading your "Rain of Pain" write. "Good Luck" I did "Pretty Clouds Let It Rain." Have a fun day writing away.............

oh I can so relate. When I packed up my mother's things for goodwill, I couldn't stop crying. I kept two of her shirts just so I could smell her scent.
