Racing No More

He stands tall, muscular and magnificent. He raced the first years of his life. Not knowing how to be a pet, just a commodity. He endured grueling training, humid hot Florida weather, injuries to his body and psyche. His life changed that day we rescued him and showed him love and affection and how to be a beloved pet, he even likes his cat siblings. He is often called the 45 MPH couch potato. He is one of the lucky ones. Greyhounds are a unique and special breed. The dog racing industry is slowly being banned. a commodity raised to make money, not pets ~ dying industry 8/16/2020 Contest: Let The Pens Flow - Haibun Poetry Contest Sponsor: Jenish Somadas

We rescued a greyhound here in the UK and he spent 6 years of his retirement with us. A wonderful family dog. We found out they tend to have a number tatooed in their ear and from that we were able to see all his races he was in via the net..we only watched one..agreed..the racing and 'training' should be banned.

Thank you for your visit and comments Gary. Our dog does have the tattoos as well. We have watched his past races on the internet. There is still plenty of pro-racing and I am sure some of the dogs are treated well but not the majority. They are such sweet dogs!
