Rabbit Vs Eagle

A drama unfolded at noon yesterday
Beneath a row of Laurel's we’d planted one year
From across the meadow it wasn’t quite clear
Just what was fighting this rabbit so dear.

For all of a sudden giant wings flapped
“It’s an eagle,” we cried, “and it’s on the attack.”
But the brave little rabbit leapt straight at its chest
And the great bird pulled skyward out of its reach

We watched the small rabbit sit dazed in the grass
Both on the alert lest the eagle flew back
It didn’t seem wounded -it sat there unscathed
In the light of a miracle we named him,”Braveheart.”

He was amazing. At first we couldn’t figure out what was down on the ground fighting him but when we ran at it to chase whatever it was away this great eagle flew up. Thanks for your visit. SuZ

So smart of the rabbit ! To have bravely fought with the eagle, it deserves to be named- Braveheart! Enjoyed the encounrter between the rwo. Your description of it is so realistic, dear Suzanne! All the Best!

Thanks Valsa. He is still visiting as we have birdseed out and he sits there nibbling with the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. Quite a menagerie. SuZ
