For The Joy Of Watching Animals Poetry Contest Sponsored by Natasha L Scragg
A drama unfolded at noon yesterday Beneath a row of Laurel's we’d planted one year From across the meadow it wasn’t quite clear Just what was fighting this rabbit so dear. For all of a sudden giant wings flapped “It’s an eagle,” we cried, “and it’s on the attack.” But the brave little rabbit leapt straight at its chest And the great bird pulled skyward out of its reach We watched the small rabbit sit dazed in the grass Both on the alert lest the eagle flew back It didn’t seem wounded -it sat there unscathed In the light of a miracle we named him,”Braveheart.”
