An old lady of years walks all alone on tired legs
with a face so happy . . .
at last she has found this dreamy place of long past memory.
Oh, painted daisy,
she recalls gathering bouquets of them
under a perfect sky
of a sweet impossible blue . . .
listen to that cool stream babbling on the way to somewhere,
the weeping willow still hangs her head over the water
and the blue jay is still singing
on an overhanging branch- a welcome back song.
Tired, she lays down . . .
closing her ancient eyes for the last time
she smiles, whispering, life has been quite divine.
