Queen of the Hedgerow
The absolute surprise of your face
brings joy to the Spring in snow’s place.
The royal, velveteen, purple hues
glorify the chill morning dew.
England, bonnie England, Buckinghamshire
birthed the little flower of my hearts desire.
Whether Johnny-jump-up or Pied Heart’s Ease
these colorful dickens cause nary a sneeze!
Tiny faces peek from hedgerows and bushes
making our flower beds look oh, so luscious.
A grand variety of Russian yellow or white
each and every wee monkey a rare delight.
So, to you dear Pansy I say, “Hip Hip Hurray!”
May there ne’r come a Spring you’re not on display!
