Q-Tips

In charge of the museum store,
She was an ex-New Yorker.
Her hair was white, her glasses black
(Like me!) and yes, a talker.

She spoke of moving to the Cape
And though she missed the city,
She’d learned to love her lifestyle now,
Less hassled and less gritty.

In passing, she remarked about
Her other “Q-Tip” pals.
“What does that mean?” I asked.
She answered, “Older white-haired gals.

I guess we look like Q-Tips,
With our heads of snowy white.”
I laughed ‘cause I’m a Q-Tip, too
And somehow, that’s all right.

Oh so clever and very cute, ilene! Will pass this along to my "Q-tip" buddies!!! Thanks for the grin. Just a thought - adding more candles to our cake doesn't render us sidewalk superindentents in life!

I gave it up, too Ilene. Too much yucky hassle and expense. I'm silver and love it. It looks blonde in my new avatar, but silver, it is. Your rhymes are always first class.

You’re lucky, Ilene… I would pay a King’s ransom for a flock of white hair instead of my wide centre parting. I don’t fret over being a baldly-bonce but I’d choose ‘Q-tip’ over ‘Kojak lollipop’ any day. Enjoyed the write… I only hope I can stifle my grin when I see a passing Q-Tip.

Hey Jan! I colored my hair for years by myself and then finally gave it up during Covid and my hair is pure white, which surprised me, but I kind of like it. Guess I should update my photo, but I’m too lazy to remember how to do that. Perhaps I should use you as a role model and just become a hummingbird (since dragonfly is taken)…

ha ha ha. I am a covert Q tip I guess I was colouring it with henna in my teens , then semi permanent colour now permanent . mum went grey at a very early age no idea if mine would be grey or white but i dont like the 'badger' look with a grey/white stripe so will continue to colour it lol:-) hugs Jan xx
