Put Out the Lights
Put out the lights, then, and let the nightfall reign;
Wind down the clock, then, and mount the wooden hill;
Pull down the shades, then, and blank the window pane;
Set down the book, then, upon the window sill.
Curl in the sheets, then, and drift into the dark;
Sink in the bed, then, and keel into the deep;
Dream of our love, then, and hear the dawning lark;
Rise from the depths, then, and shake the clinging sleep.
Take out the trash, then, into the daylight glare;
Walk in the sun, then, and hunger for my kiss;
Stand on the grass, then, and breathe the scented air;
Think about me, then, and warmly reminisce.
Put out the lights, then, when twilight dims the day;
Sit in the chair, then, and ponder far and wide;
Think about me, then, who loves you far away;
I will be with you, then, forever by your side.
