Ah, you googled it! But Webster's College Dictionary defines putamen as, "the stone inside a peach, plum, apricot, or other fruit" from the Latin root "to prune" . . ..

Most people are proud of their name, whatever it may be. Consider the millions of Smith and Jones who would never change their name to something that identifies them!
