Purple Heart

Purple Heart It's what freedom cost, Yet another family's lost. Traces of a long forgotten war, Willing participants to their own accord. A coffin's flag to a son who gave his life, So unafraid to die for the right. Unspoken words echoes in silent action, A sympathy for another's suffering compassion. While his last battle has come to a end, Us warrior poets write quickly to defend. The parents never bragged about the Purple Heart, His death was tearing their lives apart. He died when he was only twenty seven, I hope God saved a place for him in Heaven. These gnarled hands that once held the terrible weapons of war, Now beckoned for peace that we shall know war no more. The hardships they suffered for liberty's sake we shall never know, So much, so very much to each of these brave men and women we owe!
