Puppets

Addiction was her puppeteer
 It pulled her every string
Drugs became the master of her fears
Depression was all it would bring

 Some become puppets of greed
 Pimping out their very souls
More, and more, and more they need
 Satisfaction is never their goal

Envy is also a puppet master
Making us want what others possess
Pulling the strings of jealousy faster
And leaving us a sorry mess

Perhaps we, are just puppets of love
As our strings are pulled from above
                         ----

Very well expressed, Joseph. Puppets and puppeteers...sometimes it is a blessing to find somebody to cut the strings! Even puppets need their moments of freedom! #7 // paul

I've watched people taken down by addiction too many times. Your poem is incredibly honest and insightful, Joseph! When love is an addiction, it can even become toxic like a drug, although I'd rather be addicted to love than anything else. Good luck in the contest...hugs, Rhonda

Addiction to love is probably one of the better addictions. We are indeed, puppets.

I agree with this a lot. It reminds of a friend of mine who's a junkie and the way you put it poetically is very clever and metaphoric. Liking it man :)
