Before we part, be close to me-
As close as sand is to the sea,
As close as leaves are to the trees:
As close as close as we can be
I want you near, like Dawn's first light-
As near as Stars are to the Night,
Near as birds ere taken flight:
Near to me as eyes to sight

I love this poem because I believe it is one of the best poems I have ever written. Every time I read it, I remember for whom I wrote it, and why. I think this piece conveys a universal sentiment of the human condition: that we all desire the closeness of someone we love, or once loved.
