Proverbial Smoking In Bed

the unzipped match —
a flame that heats the tips of fingers,
those sensitive appendages
that linger,
upon the cheek,
the whiskers.

erogenous zones touched by the flame,
like candles arouse
compatible birthday suits.

the cherry red matchstick
plumps up her lips
making them magnetic.

his lips and ruby tongue
pulled into
the black hole of her being.

their own haven of forest
in flames —
no longer tame.

the full force of desire
moves over her neck
her shoulders,
lower and lower,
leaping higher and higher.

flesh singed —
in the end both become smokers
in bed.

I love your ending of this poem - very clever and indeed romantic - a wonderful write and love how the tempo of the poem quickens as the heated moment arrives! Hugs, Jennifer.

Kim, this is one of your best poems, sensual but tactful imagery, the poem increasing with intensity as it headed for its heated end! Bravo! Thanks for reading "Looks mean many things." Brahms as a young man was called Germany's "golden boy." As he aged he followed the tradition, then almost de rigeure, to grow a beard. He's one of my favorite composers. Again, many thanks. / M

Reminds me of an old joke. "Do you smoke after sex?" "I don't know, I never looked." : ) Seriously though Kim, this was fantastic. Just the right amount of heat in this to create the scene for the reader without going full on sexual inferno.
