Proof I Am Useless At Drawing

Written on schoolwork ‘Boadicea didn't fight Martians’ Teacher was cruel I was only about 8 years old and the teacher had actually written that phrase on my history schoolwork and I was mortified. I look back now and think how cruel it was as I had tried my best but I really am useless at art 02~15~17

Some 'teachers' are just scary, people like that teaching children? Teachers are supposed to inspire, not judge. Myself I am an accomplished musician and poet, but at best I can draw a sophisticated stick man! Ha! We all have a calling.... Jan you are a fine poet and who cares what the real imbeciles say?

Thanks Keith - we are influenced so much by the experiences we had at school. I was not creative in the slightest and I have no artistic flair and I absolutely hated poetry lol - yet now I can't get enough of writing and learn something new every day:-) hugs Jan xx

Hey Jan!! Who decides what is Art!!?! And remember...a degree does not a teacher make!! The tender years...at least you weren't made to stand with your nose in the corner of classroom for something you didn't do!! I was 6!! LOL!! :0 You keep pressing on girl!! I hope it is different for kids these days Deb ... I got smacked by my teacher on the first day at infant's school am sure i have written a poem about it ... but can say in all honesty my school days where not the happiest of my life far from it!:-( hugs jan

It was a lady her name was Mrs Richards - I can see her face so visibly as I type. I have never considered myself at all creative or artistic so writing poetry has taken me totally by surprise in so many ways:-) hugs Jan xx

Yes she was a Queen Joseph. I have never considered myself at all creative so it really is a surprise how I have taken to writing poetry in the last 3 years:-) hugs jan xx

As a teacher I cannot imagine worst crime than this at any age, especially at the tender age of eight. HE WAS NOT A TEACHER my dear, Jan, but an impostor! On behalf of all teachers I humbly apologize!

I look back and realise how terrible it was to mock me for not being good at art - it was in a history lesson and we were supposed to illustrate our work:-( hugs Jan xx

That is horrible....If it was my child I would give her a piece of my mind in email of course and copy the principal and superintendent.... I've heard you draw a mean bath : )

lol Tim - gee they didn't even have computers when i was at school I wrote on a slate lol. Seriously my mother never knew about it I was too embarrassed and it's only when we cleared the house I found some of my old school books - my drawing is no better now lol i am not artistic at all:-) hugs jan xx

Terrible teacher x My 6 year-old son was told in his group that the other kids had to laugh at him because he came last x she was a fffff x

actually there are teachers and then there are those who get paid to call themselves teacher...the one who wrote that to you was not a teacher rather just someone paid to have the title of teacher..if you get my meaning

I agree Frederic and it happened many years ago and having worked in a school myself I know things have changed a lot since then, but it is something that remains with me always and I would never undermine the confidence in a child due to their lack of ability especially in something like art:-) hugs Jan xx

I don't know whether to yell or laugh at this. Some teachers have no idea the effect they have on young students or maybe they do and just don't care, but don't feel bad, at least you got a few words, my teachers usually just wrote a big "F" on my work. :)

I found the book when we were clearing my parent's home. Having worked in a school for 16 years it made me so sad Chris. I am sure the teacher had a good laugh in the staff room at my expense though and I agree with you that some teachers have no idea that something which they think is insignificant can have such a detrimental effect on a young child:-( hugs Jan xx
