* Promises Made

A child born into a family one sunny day.
The parents holding her close and making promises.
She grows starts throwing fits and saying no.
So the parents are ashamed when she acts out in public.
When she gets home the punishments starts.
No dinner, no food for being so bad.
Kicked to the curb because she shamed them.
They had already forgotten the promises made years ago.
What must this child feel, think wondering why?
People walk by everyday acting as though all is okay.
Others turn their heads away, that way they won't have to see.
No hands reach to her for help, to be taken away.
The parents had forgotten the promises made that sunny day.
The hand finally came that night for the child, the hand of God.
He took her with him, held her close, and told her to fear no more.
News paper headline read 'a child died from abuse'.
All those who had turned their heads, walked the other way now outraged.
At the parents who had abused her so. but it was not all their fault.
Those that see and remain blind are as guilty as those who turn away.
A child born into heaven one sunny day, now happy and safe.

So heartbreaking, its even more sad that this happens everyday... You are very strong to be able to write about such an emotional topic... Amazing...

Rhonda, I work in a congested downtown city, near a large regional hospital with people coming and going all the time, I've seen kids being yanked-on ,threatened with beatings and verbally abused, but have never intervened, I have tried to plan-out how to successfully accomplish this without getting hurt, as this mostly occurs with a loud, mean-lookin' guy... any ideas? jim
