Pride of Place - My Mother's Piano

Pride of Place - My Mother's Piano

My mother’s hands on ivory keys wove enchanted runes
Then flew across the keyboard in musical monsoons
Notes of black and white in song serenades communed
She coaxed the claviature to plaintive and musical cartoons.

Eighty-eight keys remember days of Claire de Lune,
Sonatas lyrical shimmers recall enchantments of the moon,
Bewitching notes that bloomed in l’apres midi afternoons
Reminisce now that her treasured piano graces my front room.

I love every musical note of this, and every touching reminiscence of your mother playing the soundtrack of your childhood on this piano that now fills your room with memories of her, even as it once filled the air with her music. So enchanting to me, always, to read you writing about music. I know how much it means to you. Beautifully composed, dear friend, I will be humming of afternoon fauns and moonlight and Claire of the moon all day now. A fave for me. God bless ~ John

Sam, You have many fond recollections of your mother's Piano. Her instrument will produce some of the most beautiful music, I guess. This is a lovely poem, and it's a great entry in the contest. Win Big

Thank you so much Harry! This contest theme really brought a :) to my heart as I remembered the many times she played that piano and, in her own way, encouraged my love for music. And, by her example encouraged me to develop my gift for music. So grateful for your encouraging words! Sending you blessings of gladness and joy!

Hi Valsa! So grateful for your lovely feedback. Thank you. There are pieces of music and songs I will always associate with her. One year at Christmas she trained the neighborhood girls to sing carols so we could go caroling. She taught me the harmony to Silver Bells on that piano. Many thanks for your good wishes for the contest. Blessings of joy to you!
