Pretty Sentences
I got an ugly duckling pen
that’s always
trying to write pretty sentences
My plain consonant smiles
don’t have a poetic glow beautiful
I have a missing vowel or two,
enamel thoughts in need
of a good fairy to come through
Pretty sentences
are my Glenda ... my Snow White
My beloved Bewitched
If I give my pen a little twitch —
Presto ... bingo Abracadabra!
Got my talking muse carpet flying
out of a writer’s block ditch
Pretty sentences
have such cute adjective pigtails
They can make a grown boy cry,
and make a macho man-child wail
Pretty sentences
brings out the feminine empathy,
hidden beneath the surface,
deep inside the very heart of me
Love passion that’s hot ... sin rejection that’s cold
Feelings not bought, feelings not sold
Pretty sentences found
is word treasure rarer than lost gold
Pretty sentences
always do a polite curtsy
when they come to a gracious end
Just an old-fashioned decent way
to let another shy pen
know they’ve found a new poetic friend
A beautiful rainbow swan
swimming in the same ink pond
with a quill ugly duckling
