Pressure
Pressure
To be good. To be great. Wait -
No -
To be exceptional.
To be the best and nothing less
To fill your mind with constant stress
Like a never-ending test
To dominate every field of expertise
And be nothing short of perfection
All with a smile,
That withstands the weight of generations
Yet -
It still not be enough
The world is tough on a black person
Standards were written against us
No matter the blueprint, they just changed the foundation
Propogandered a lie, to sell to countless of nations
That objectivity favoured white faces
Using this lie of superiority, throughout the ages
Conforming to a society that would never accept us
It is either the imprisonment by white rule -
Or the threat of a death sentence,
This is control used as a manipulative tool
Either way we are destined for a life so cruel
Being black meant the constant pressure To deal with ridicule
They suffocate us with a role to perform
Used to change us, to conform
No script, no practice, just a platform
Forced into a role we didn't ask for
This is not dramatised, this is real life manipulation
Pressure upon pressure, with added expectations
They expect us to be perfect, yet in their eyes white is perfection
Their ideal world is black without identity
If we don't have that we don't have memory
Of our ancestors, of our history
They drown us in their insecurity
To steal us of our liberty
The pressure unloaded onto us
Is second hand worthlessness
It was never ours to hold
It was just the lies they sold
They saw everything we've accomplished
And just like our land, stole our bodies -
To build and to break, to re-establish
Into corruptible zombies
