Present In the Moment
The winter sun warms my face
As I look up at the vast cloudless sky.
In that same instance the cold northern wind
Dances at my back lifting my hair in disarray.
As I sit, I am surprised the ground is warmed
By the powerful rays on this January day.
I hear the crash and gurgle of the incoming tide
Against the rocky bluffs below me,
As I watch the fishing boat cut through the choppiness
Of the wind swept white caps, on it’s way home.
I let myself breathe in and out, and empty my mind
Of all thoughts, feelings, and emotions,
Until I am just present in that moment.
The calmness of my surroundings overcomes me,
And washes over me, bringing peace to my complicated life.
