Precious Preemie (Alouette) Precious little lass Time will come to pass When your preemie days have gone. As spring flowers bloom You'll be blooming soon As you grow with every dawn. Mommy loves you so Daddy too I know That you'll grow up sweet and strong. Two pounds and a half... When we hear you laugh It sounds like a joyous song. You were meant to be In this family By Divine love we were blessed. Hearts are full of cheer Now that you are here, Darling angel get some rest. It is very clear Grammy lingers near Just to hold you in her arms. You are growing fast And soon at long last She will know your loving charms. 4-5-20 The Alouette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more stanzas of 6 lines each, with the following set rules: Meter: 5, 5, 7, 5, 5, 7 Rhyme Scheme: a, a, b, c, c, b The form name is a French word meaning 'skylark' or larks that fly high, the association to the lark's song being appropriate for the musical quality of this form. The word 'alouette' can also mean a children's song (usually sung in a group), and although this poetry form is not necessarily for children's poetry (but can be applied that way), it is reminiscent of that style of short lines. Preference for the meter accent is on the third syllable of each line.

Such a gift are children - and the premature ones, so full of life and curiosity ... they just couldn't wait to see what was there outside the womb. A beautiful poem of tenderness. Thanks for bringing a smile my way...

I wanted her to be a Pisces and she must have heard my wishes. I am delighted she was strong enough to make it. She was even breathing on her own at two months premature. Thank you Timothy. xxoo

Thank you Andrea. Jan just left the poetry world. She was afraid her computer would get a virus and I never heard from her again tho I sent her cards and emailed her, even called and left messages for her, but no response. I already got to FaceTime my little Cosette and next will see my g.daughters which makes my day. xxoo

Thank you John. This baby is a miracle for my daughter who is 46 and always wanted a baby. Little Cosette is doing well and now the size of a newborn. We are praying her brain bleed disappears and she won't need to live with a shunt in her head. Blessings xxoo

I am charmed in every sentence. Preemie baby will soon be strong and you will hold the baby in your arms to feel the warmth. Showers of blessing to your grand baby.

I love the poem It shows your feelings and yearning to hold her. It is scary when a baby is born a preemie. 2 lbs. And a half. Oh my goodness. I hope your grandbaby is doing super now. I hope you've gotten to hold her. We have been off limits to all our children and the grandchildren since this virus came on the scene. I miss them all.

Little Cosette is the size of a newborn now and is doing well but still has the brain bleed we are hoping dissipates so she won't have to live with a shunt in her head. I won't be able to see her for many months because of the virus scare. Thank you Bette. I made miss my grandchildren too so I know how you feel. Blessings xxoo

Connie, There is a lovely quality, perhaps even a vulnerability, that I almost missed. I love the title, the last stanza, heck I love the whole poem. -Richard

Stroke of luck being born "preemie" during the pandemic so she receives the safest protection possible! I do hope you can read your poems to her! Aloha! Rico

I love the spring parallel: "As spring flowers bloom / You'll be blooming soon / As you grow with every dawn." Like a flower, she is slowly but surely growing into her beautiful self. Your grandmother love is so evident, as you wait to envelope her with your affection. Is Jan Turner the poetess you met at Shadow Poetry? Do you keep in touch with her? ~ John

Connie, beautiful verse from a loving grandma. To be born early of course the odds are hard for them.My youngest grandchild was also a preemie a month early . He might be a little, but he’s healthy and strong and full of mischief and this grandma loves him too.

Yes Jennifer, Cosette was born February the 23rd. almost two months early. She wasn't due until April 18th. She weighed a tiny bit over 2 and half pounds. I only get to see her on FaceTime because she lives across the ocean in Northern California. She will be my last grandchild and I am thrilled for my daughter who has never had children and always wanted one. Thank you very much for the kind wishes. Keep Safe. P.S. My daughter's name is Jennifer too. xxoo
