Powerless

Lightning cut the power off four times this week As sultry summer storms pass overhead By candlelight, I write a letter to my sweetheart Without him, I feel powerless Without him, I feel powerless By candlelight, I write a letter to my sweetheart As sultry summer storms pass overhead Lightning cut the power off four times this week. August 15, 2020 For John Lawless’s “Mirror Mirror” contest

I like the way you show two things powerless in this mirrored poem! I can't even remember if I ever won this one or not. Probably I didn't. Did you?

No, it didn't win in John's contest. I'm sure he had entries he liked much better. Thanks for reading, Andrea. Hugs, Carolyn

Having electricity cuts is such a nuisance, Carolyn, but as long as they don't last long we manage to get by. I like how you turned these cuts into something romantic...and the clever use of 'powerless' merits a round of applause! Hugs // paul

Thanks, Paul. We actually did lose power four times last week. Fortunately, I have a lot of candles and lanterns.

The link you created between nature and love is so alluring.

Cleverly constructed. A poem to linger on. Like the lament and love balance. (plus power word play)!

Lightning isn't always so illuminating! Heh, heh... Split a tree in half in my front yard, which fell across my front steps and landing. Amazingly, no damage, no injuries... but still waiting for the city to cart it away... Here's to calmer days! :) gw

During Hurricane Matthew in 2017,, my neighbor's roof landed in my yard. I can relate to the angst you felt, Gershon.

I feel the grief in your verses my friend. Clever dual meaning in "powerless". All the best, Carolyn.

Wow! I had no idea HECO supplied your power! Have you managed to save all the ice cream? Aloha! Rico

Ice cream doesn't last in my fridge, Rico. The recent outages lasted only a few hours each. Thanks for reading!

A poem full of angst for a loved one in times of trouble...A nice idea for this contest
