Power in the Tongue

As humans we have great power
that many don't use for good
we have the power to help and encourage
or to break someone's spirit

While walking through a dark situation,
a smile and quick hello help me
to put one foot in front of the other
and keep trying to move forward

Or a series of mean and angry words
can bring the tears close to the surface,
and make me feel worse than
I did before the tirade

Being kind is a basic command that is
the basis of my life and it is very
frustrating when that kindness is thrown
back at me with venom

The same body organ produces kind words
that produces angry and hurtful words
the difference is using it for good or evil,
which is a fight that is fought on many realms
