Notes About The Poem

Poppy

I am a bright red poppy grown in gardens near and far.
A Remembrance flower to honor our fallen, nothing to mar.
On the western front, in the first world war.
Bright red poppies like me were the first flowers soldiers saw.

Flowers growing on a battlefield really did astound.
We grew there because artillery fire broke up the ground.
Now I am worn on Remembrance Day, each and every year.
As humans wait in hopes that world peace will soon be here.

Dearest Wen, such a profound personification and symbolism of a poppy. The picture you’ve used is beautiful and yet almost haunting too. Such a reflective and emotional read. I’ve always found poppies and the significance of them being used in services so touching as I did your beautiful poem. Your last line, ‘ As humans wait in hopes that world peace will soon be here’ really stood out with impact. How we all wish dear one. I’m wishing my dearest pal a peaceful, creative weekend. Hugs to you xx

Such a maligned flower because of the opium poppy, sweet Chris, but still even that species of Poppy brings us Morphine and Codeine That offer pain relief. Glad you liked my lil poem. The Ukrainian girl is an amazing picture isnt it.? It breaks my heart. Thank you dearest friend for your wonderful comment .. Wen
