*Yesterday,was the World Day of the Environment and the Secretary General of the United Nations declared that till 2050 the Oceans will have more plastic than fish!

Sara , my dearest some of the plastic takes four centuries to decompose and the rate of plastic we throw into the oceans will soon pass the number of fish! You should have read my today's Limerick! Thank you!

People are so thoughtless my Dear Friend - but if we all do our bit like you are, we can avert the catastrophe. Throw the bottles in recycling bins and not in the gutters that flow into the storm water drains. I'm not sure in which country it is but they have made huge, floating mesh tubular barriers with plastic bottles that prevent trash entering the ocean. Denmark recycles and is running out of recyclables so has to import trash. Now that's a move in the right direction.In Oz from 1 July supermarkets are moving to paper bags and Hawaii already do so - they charge 10c if you want plastic instead..Maria xxx

Dearest Maria, always you bring good news and you are optimistic and this is a good thing to do however the problem remains for Man has not managed to imitate mother nature so as whatever waste he produces to be biodegradable therefore an island of plastic have been formed in the North Pacific the size of France and many more such smaller islands. We better listen to UN's General Secretary for by 2050 there would be more plastic than fish in the oceans! Hope and pray we shape up or else...! Thank you for your contribution and gracious visit my dear friend!

Sorry to make you cry dearest, Maureen! We all have to do our part to avert catastrophe, although I think things will get worse before getting any better! We must change our way of treating the environment! Thank you!

- Norway has a major cleanup along the coast all year ... it has been found that most of the trash is from other countries - terribly sad - a great writing, my friend :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

A shocking and frightening image that of a universe endangered by pollution! Unless Man acquires a deep understanding and awareness of the appalling dangers that threaten their very lives and the lives of the other species, punishment and other measures wouldn't enhance the value and significance of the universe! Man is one dirty animal, everywhere you look there's rubbish everywhere, saw on tv a seal in the arctic with plastic in its mouth.In the uk they charge for plastic carriers in supermarkets but it is not enough, there should be a complete ban now before it is too late. Tom
