Notes About The Poem

Poinsettia

Deep red star flower,

                                      scarlet life blood atonement.

                                           We beseech your heal.

A beauty, Thomas. Three strong lines that hit the spiritual symbolism of a traditional Christmas flower in so many homes. Sincerest regards. Brian

I am very pleased that you liked it. For me, poinsettias and Christmas are inseparable. Thanks, Brian.

Thanks for this piece, Thomas. It reminded me of the poinsettia trees I saw in Tanzania...huge with abundant showy blossoms. My translator thought it insane that we paid so much for one single bloom. He was right!

Thank you. Yes, around here it is not difficult to find these for sale, especially this time of year. Of course, one can find them in a variety of colors. But they are most commonly red, which I think makes a symbolic connection to the blood of Christ.

Hello Thomsas, I have the memory of this beautiful plant with my husband. We would put it into the closet to turn green. Merry Christmas to you my friend.

Hi Darlene, Yes I have fond memories of my mother arrange pots of poinsettias around the house during Christmas. Thank you for your comment!
