Poets In Combat-Sigh

Poets, you've been expressing your opinions on politics Some were very nasty, like oil and water, they don't mix Some 'discussions' have gotten rude and very hostile It's truthful facts vs. fictional lies, all spewed with bile Can everyone stop bickering and put your theories aside Believe what you will, but stop being sarcastic and snide It doesn't make a difference what any of us choose to think The world is out of order right now, completely out of sync I'm annoyed by being told, "covid is just a hoax." It's real! Go ask the families of those who have died, how they feel Don't send me to videos with what you consider is proof I'm capable of reaching my own conclusions. I'm not aloof America isn't gone. We're much more resilient than that Our Constitution wasn't written as words of silly chitchat We've not been destroyed by acts of deplorable lunacy We've no need of a funeral, so don't prepare a eulogy Poems and blogs that cause tension, worries and woe will not lead us to write better poetry, so just let it go Please stop using your pen like a weapon; a baseball bat to grand slam insults. Poets, we should not be in combat

Hello Jenna … aggressive opinions achieve nothing. I prefer to read poetry that is lighthearted, humorous, or nature and feel good about it. A relevant statement indeed Jenna - Lindsay

Hi Jenna, well penned my friend. I never read blogs so therefore I haven't seen the bickering and now having read your poem, I'm very glad I don't visit them. As for Covid being real, absolutely, people who say it is not are either idiots or trouble makers. Great write Jenna. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer..

The one who posted the blog was complaining about the site and not getting enough comments. He's not been here a month! The profanity he used was totally uncalled for. Thank you for reading me so often, Jennifer, and for leaving your kind remarks. Yeah, those who think it's a hoax are idiots in my book, too.

Agreed!... May I suggest that at least part of the problem stems from 'unencouraging' comments to strong opinions expressed in poem. We really ought not to comment, except to encourage our fellow poets. Thanks for reading, and Happy Weekend! :) gw

You may make your suggestion. I think you just did and I agree. Religion and politics are often volaile subjects. Thanks, Gershon.

Well said Jenna, that second stanza hits home hard, I too know of the conspiracy theories about covid and i won't watch the videos and just crack on with life. one thing for certain covid is real its killing our loved ones and the economy is in freefall. as for blogs they shouldnt be used for political purposes nor to attack other poets but that rule doesn't apply at times as inappropriate blogs have been posted recently:-( hugs Jan WRITE ON:-) xx

Most blogs are posted with good intentions, but then along comes someone(s) who needs attention, and suddenly it's a free-for-all on whose opinion is right and whose is wrong. Thanks, Jan. I appreciate your comments.

You make a very valid point. It would be nice if people and politicians could be civil in the discussion of their differences. Some people go way overboard, myself included. I will do better, we all can do better. I'm stubborn but I can at least listen to common sense. Thank you for posting your sensible words.

Thank you for understanding my reasoning and pointing a finger at yourself. Others should be as cognizant of it as you are. Thanks for listening, Mark.

Well said Jenna. We all have different opinions and beliefs and we should all respect that. I know many have left soup because of the bickering that sometimes goes on here, it's not acceptable behavior. Tom

Hi, Tom. Thank you, and yes everyone has an opinion, but I'm really irritated by those who can't offer it in a decent manner. If i leave, it'll not be due to those who dangle a key to their thoughts in front of me. My brain is capable of sifting the truth from a lie.

I could not help but laugh at people sending you videos to prove COVID-19 is an hoax! Last night's BBC's news interviewed such a fool and every "fact" he recited was immediately refuted with proof which made him red-in-the-face angry but did not change his "thinking" at all! Best wishes for a better world! Aloha! Rico

I've not personally been sent web addys to those sites, but I've seen them on the comments of a few poets who think they've discovered the Holy Grail of Truth. I don't push my beliefs on anyone and don't appreciate people who think they have the solution to what's wrong with America...especially those who are not US citizens.

Right on, Jenna. Soup is not the place for political bile. I don't care what your political beliefs are, you write fine poetry!

It's terribly sad that with thousands of people dying every day from the virus, people bicker over political issues. Priorities are out of order. I thank you for reading me and leaving your insightful thoughts.
