Poetry Thief

Mara loves to steal from others
A skill well learned with no druthers
Paraphrase one word or two,
Hoping no one has a clue
Her poems formed from another's

Mara cannot hide behind her word crime
And pretending to, is a waste of time
Poems and words can be traced,
to a new plagiarism case
She needs to stop and find a new pastime

I am out of the loop on who this plagiarist is, but good on you for calling it out, and POTD, love entering your contests BTW, thank you

I wonder if they feel good about themselves knowing it's not their own words. Belated Congratulations on this well-deserved POTD! Charlie

Charlie, I am sure they do as this person continues to post poems and pretend they are original. Thank you.

Tania, I just wanted to check — are you aware there’s a Mara Keller on this site? Like many others,i'm sure I went straight to look at her poems only to find that she hasnt posted for a while? if she’s the person you’ve mentioned as the “poetry thief' I'm puzzled. If she isn’t, perhaps it would be fairer to name the actual poet involved. Maria

Maria, Mara is not the real name. Thanks for your visit.

Tania, can you even imaging the waste of time plagiarism entails on a place like this? I can't get over the display of lack of self-esteem on the part of Mara and others like her. They must have been badly treated at some point in their lives. Too bad, this will never make up for that. They only have hollow smiles. Congratulations on POTD!!

Tania, congratulations on your POTD. This is so well written on an important subject. It is one thing to be inspired by another writer and give them credit. It is quite another to steal their work. Thank you. Blessings.

Dear Tania, first, congrats on POTD! To steal someone else's work and pass it off as your own is pretty low. I know that in college, they do frown on plagiarism and have software to root it out. Thanks for your boldness in calling it what it is. Although I am clueless on who it is. Blessings, My Dear Tania, Daniel

is this not what AI does...steals lines and phrases from existing poetry, perhaps alters a few lines, while stealing and ravaging the artistic intent of the original. perhaps the culprit is a malfunctioning Bot

I’m reminded of the movie title, not the movie, Eyes Wide Shut. To be told and yet refuse to believe. Just as with other PS problems. You can lead a horse to water, but… should I quote the cliche so I won’t be plagiarizing? Well done effort, Tania.

Lin, thank you. It is getting hopeless these days. I expect a poetry site to be on top of these issues. There is legal recourse for plagiarism. I think it is something like 25,000 for each offense.

Dropping back with many congrats on POTD, I've just read the forum page and how admin justifies 'plagiarism' by people using cliches and it beggars belief! I think I will write a poem too. :-) hugs Jan x

I know plagiarism is anathema to us poets Tania, but the apparent compulsive nature of this person to copy and repost other writers works, is telling me that serious mental health issues are at play, its like a form of kleptomania, and they just cannot stop themselves from same, I understand your frustration, and believe Admin needs to step in again, even if just for the credibility of the site, congratulations on POTD, one I’m sure you’d rather not have to write, cheers David

David, thank you. I agree it must be some mental health issues for this person to continue doing so. I agree that the credibility of the site could be improved. I hope the admins take notice.

Shame that some resort to doing that, and it's not just the odd sentences but using another's idea too and passing it off as your own. Some people have no shame. Tom

Jan, yes, and we know that paraphrasing and taking lines from different poems to make a poem is still plagiarism. If anyone can't write them from their own creation they are a fake poet. Too much of that going on these days. No integrity.
