Poetry Night

Icebreaker
Stomach in a knott
Got the jitters
Got the runs
Anxiety on its high.

Made a choice to recite
Poetry of the night
Heart pounding
Knees shacking
Eyes bulging
Crowd waiting.

MOTHER
This decision isn't right
Crowd staring
Words choking
Got stage fright.

Having doubts
Looking scared
Holding onto the mic
MOTHER
I need to take a quick flight
Got to get out of sight.
